Vivien Budge

Vivien Budge paints or draws any thing that holds a special significance for her and at the moment is enjoying the challenge of painting the beautiful wildflowers and birds of Western Australia. Vivien loves impressionist painting styles with brush strokes that show some of the energy of creating art.

While she is drawn to the sensuality of painting with oil, Vivien does find the challenge of painting in watercolour on canvas wonderfully satisfying, and always enjoys drawing. Vivien Budge is a self-taught artist and has had the privilege of learning so much from attending short but intense courses with some truly amazing portrait artists- most excitingly, with British portrait master Andrew James, and more recently with South African Douw van Heerden.

While Vivien loves the challenge of painting just about anything, she is drawn to portrait painting and tries to create portraits that show something of the life experience of the people she is drawn to, through their inspiring life stories. Vivien has had a number of portraits included in the Top 100 South African Portrait Awards which is a bi-annual Portrait Competition and had one of her watercolour portraits of Nelson Mandela for Mandela Day featured online.

After enjoying many years of studying and teaching mathematics, Vivien now feels extremely privileged to be able to spend her time experimenting with paint
